Dive Insight:
Family Dollar said it’s using on-demand delivery services to provide convenience to customers during the busy holiday season.
“At Family Dollar, we’re focused on meeting our customers where they are, offering the value they depend on and the convenience they deserve,” Chris Hooks, president and chief commercial officer at Family Dollar, said in a statement. “Partnering with DoorDash allows us to make shopping easier and more accessible for the millions of families who rely on us every day. Whether it’s everyday essentials or last-minute needs, we’re committed to delivering affordability and convenience in every way we can.”
Like Family Dollar, a number of retailers have turned to third-party providers to offer customers faster service. Old Navy partnered with DoorDash this month to offer customers same-day delivery on all its apparel. And last year, DoorDash teamed with Ulta Beauty to bring on-demand service to the retailer’s nationwide collection of over 1,350 stores.
DoorDash and Uber Eats both formed a recent partnership with Home Depot, adding to the retailer’s delivery platforms. Uber Eats also partnered with Best Buy and Dollar General in recent months.
The tie-up between Family Dollar and DoorDash comes just over four months after Dollar Tree completed its sale of Family Dollar to private investors Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management for just over $1 billion.
