As it embarks on a turnaround strategy, Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. is leaning into a key part of its history to drum up consumer interest.
The home goods company on Monday launched the “Legendary Coupon Hunt,” a 21-day initiative that runs through July 13 aimed at finding the oldest Bed Bath & Beyond coupons across the country.
For a chance to win a $100,000 home transformation, customers are encouraged to bring their old Bed Bath & Beyond coupons into participating Kirkland’s Home and Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store locations. The coupons will be honored at face value — 20% off — as well as count as an entry into the company’s sweepstakes, which in addition to the grand prize, includes a chance to win $500 and $100 gift cards.
"For decades, our customers treated these coupons like treasure," Amy Sullivan, president of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., said in a statement. "They tucked them into purses, filing cabinets, cookbooks and memory boxes because they believed they would be valuable someday. We think they were right. The Legendary Coupon Hunt is our way of celebrating the customers who helped build this brand while creating one of the biggest customer events in our history."
Bed Bath & Beyond is calling attention to the campaign by leveraging social creators, its own social channels, a partnership with iHeartMedia and more.
The initiative kicks off as Bed Bath & Beyond pushes forward with its turnaround strategy that focuses on three pillars: omnichannel retail and commerce; digital, financial, insurance and blockchain services; and beyond home, which includes an AI-powered home operating system.
As part of the strategy, Bed Bath & Beyond has pursued a number of acquisitions in recent months, including The Brand House Collective (formerly Kirkland’s Home), The Container Store, Cabinets To Go parent company F9 Brands, real estate services platform Fathom Holdings and more.
The acquisitions in part have helped Bed Bath & Beyond rebuild its physical presence, after shuttering its fleet of stores in bankruptcy.
