Dive Insight:
Kohl’s new AI shopping assistant builds on its Gift Finder for Mother’s Day, which launched in April. The tool used Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience to offer customized gift ideas based on the recipient’s hobbies, interests and style.
The retailer is once again leveraging Google’s infrastructure to underpin its new AI shopping tool.
Kohl’s is now expanding the tool’s capabilities to help shoppers find their desired items, inspire new looks or search for the right gift no matter the occasion, using conversational queries.
“As we continue to enhance the experience, our goal remains the same: using technology in practical ways that make shopping simpler, more personal, and more helpful,” the company said in its announcement.
Kohl’s is following the footsteps of other major retailers that have created their own AI assistants, including Macy’s, Michaels and Lowe’s. The home improvement retailer has launched both Mylow for shoppers and Mylow Companion for store staffers.
Kohl’s in Q1 reported a 1.7% dip in net sales year over year, and comps declined 1.1%. Net loss for the quarter narrowed by $1 million to $14 million.
