Free People's activewear brand, FP Movement, launched its first-ever footwear collaboration with Asics. The limited-edition collection features an exclusive tennis shoe style and running sneaker, per a Tuesday press release.
The styles are available on FP Movement’s website and in select stores in addition to Asics’ website. Select Dick's Sporting Goods locations will also carry the assortment.
"There aren't many brands that have spent 75 years earning the trust of serious athletes the way Asics has,” FP Movement President Andrea Perez said in a statement. “That legacy matters to us, because the women we build for are committed to move, run, and play as an integral part of their lives. They protect their run no matter how busy life gets, they show up to their match because it's what makes them feel like themselves. This collaboration is about honoring that time."
The Gel-Challenger 15 tennis shoe will feature FP Movement’s signature paisley print and is priced at $130, while the Gel-Nimbus 28 running shoe will be accented with sunset orange and costs $180. Free People has been expanding its retail footprint this year with the opening of new stores in cities like Palm Desert, California; Savannah, Georgia; Stone Harbor, New Jersey; and more.
About 15 years old, FP Movement opened its first stand-alone location in 2020 in Century City, California. Its parent company — Urban Outfitters Inc. — posted a Q1 net sales jump of 11.4% in May, with a net income of $115.7 million.
The activewear label’s new collaboration with Asics is not the first tie-up the Free People brand has announced this year. Free People in May announced a collaboration with Volkswagen, while FP Movement at the same time partnered with Hanes.
