Mobile-based retail commerce will rise from $42.13 billion last year to $132.69 billion in five years, predicts market research company eMarketer.
Researchers at eMarketer expect tablet sales to outpace smartphone sales by 2018.
Nearer in time, this year some 124.8 million, or 63.5% of digital consumers in the U.S., will shop on a smartphone, according to the report.
eMarketer’s research is revealing the swift growth of e-commerce, not a surprise as Americans increasingly use their phones and tablets to do things they once did on their home computers. But the researchers also point out that Americans aren’t just buying things via mobile, but also exploring, researching, and communicating about things on these devices as well.
