David’s Bridal is laying off 9,236 workers nationwide, according to a WARN notice filed in Pennsylvania.
“We are evaluating our strategic options and a sale process is underway,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “At this time, there are no updates to share, and all stores are open to serve customers.”
The company did not comment on the number of workers to be laid off in Pennsylvania, which is pending verification, but 15 stores across nine counties will be impacted. Stores in counties such as Allegheny, Bucks and Montgomery are mentioned.
The layoffs in Pennsylvania will become effective in phases, starting April 14 and ending August 11.
David’s Bridal is reportedly considering filing for bankruptcy sometime in the next few weeks, according to The New York Times, which cited anonymous sources. The retailer could pursue a sale through that process. David’s Bridal declined to comment to Retail Dive on the report.
The bridal company previously filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018, at which time its debt was cut by approximately $450 million.
