Travelocity designs app for iPhone, iPod

Users of the iPhone and iPod will now be able to receive the latest information on flight status, security point wait times, maps, traffic and driving directions and local weather through the Safari browser.

“Breakthrough Apple devices like the iPhone and iPod touch have raised consumers’ expectations for quickly finding the information they need over the Internet while on-the-go,” said Jeffrey Glueck, chief marketing officer of Travelocity, Southlake, TX, in a statement.

Travelocity claims it is one of the first online travel agencies to design a mobile application for Apple products.

The application is available to iPhone and iPod users through the Safari browser by visiting http://iphone.travelocity.com or through Apple’s Web applications microsite at http://www.apple.com/webapps/.

Travelocity is the sixth-largest travel agency, claiming $10.1 billion in bookings worldwide in 2006. It is owned by Sabre Holdings Corp.
