Stop & Shop lets consumers scan, bag groceries in-store via mobile

The new Scan It mobile app was designed to provide an overall easy experience to shoppers while they are in-store.

The app is available for free download in Apple’s App Store.

“Stop & Shop’s Scan It mobile technology is the latest advancement our long line of supermarket technology innovation that simplifies the shopping experience,” said Suzi Robinson, manager of public and community relations at Stop & Shop.

“Scan It is about customer choice,” she said. “The mobile app is a natural evolution from the in-store handheld Scan It device and leverages exciting mobile technology to bring that same functionality to people through their own mobile phones.

“Now customers have two ways to shop.  Stop & Shop is excited to be part of the change in the way people shop.”

Stop & Shop employs nearly 62,000 associates and operates more than 390 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey.

Groceries to go
According to Stop & Shop, it is the first supermarket in the United States to offers a mobile, in-store shopping experience where consumers can shop, tally and check out via their mobile devices.

Additionally, the app also provides consumers with personalized offers based on each of their past purchasing history.

Currently, Scan It is being piloted in three Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts.

When the pilot is complete later this year, Stop & Shop will evaluate timing to roll out the app throughout more stores across the chain in 2012.

“Right now, we want to familiarize consumers with the mobile app and have them try it,” Ms. Robinson said.

“Customers interested in Scan It and may download the app at stopandshop.com/scanitmobile or view the demo from the application.”

“For nearly 100 years, Stop & Shop’s overall goal has been to provide customers with value and convenience every time they shop,” Ms. Robinson said. “Stop & Shop is committed to innovation to meet the needs of our customers.

“From self checkout, to Peapod home delivery to mobile applications, we want to make the shopping experience easier, more convenient, and more relevant for our customers at every touch point,” she said.
