Rue La La pushes private sales via mobile

The company entered mobile commerce in 2009 with a mobile site and in addition to its new applications, Rue La La has created a mobile Web experience for BlackBerry and Android users. The company hopes that with the expansion of its mobile offerings to all devices, consumers will shop and pass along membership from anywhere.

“Rue La La and private sale shopping has innovated how consumers are shopping online,” said Stacey Santo, senior vice president of marketing at Rue La La, Boston. “Mobile shopping is innovating this even further by giving our members anywhere access to Rue La La Boutiques.

“Complete mobility frees our members from their desks, allowing them to access Rue La La at 11:00 a.m. no matter where they are,” she said. “Mobile is an essential part of our offering that enhances our core experience for our members.”

The Rue La La application is a full-featured mobile commerce destination. It includes a native, embedded checkout to make shopping as fast and efficient as possible for members.

The applications for iPhone and iPad are free and available to download in the iTunes App Store.

Rue La La is an invitation-only online shopping destination that features brands within 48 hour private sale lifestyle boutiques.

According to the company, the applications were designed to let members encourage membership amongst friends.

The applications offer fully integrated Facebook and Twitter features the let members share the shopping purchases and invite friends within their social circles to join Rue La La.

Additionally, the company incorporated a “bump” technology that lets members share the application and membership with friends by simply bumping their phones together.

The information that is passed between the phones is encrypted and leverages the same security employed in online banking, Rue La La claims.

“The Rue La La mobile platform was built in response to our members’ demand to be able to access Rue La La wherever they are at,” Ms. Santo said. “Private sale shopping is fun and exciting and with enhanced mobile solutions our members never have to miss a boutique. ”

Rue La La is also giving one iPad and a $500 shopping spree every day from May 24-June 6, 2010, to consumers who download its application.

“Demands on time and access are increasing each day,” Ms. Santo said. “Consumers want to be able to use innovation and technology to streamline their lives and provide them access wherever they may be.

“Mobile apps and solutions allow consumers to engage with their favorite Web sites, no matter where they are,” she said. “We have a number of projects underway that will continue to revolutionize our members’ shopping experience.

“We are continually looking to drive excitement and service for our members through unique features throughout all of our business. ”
