Harry Potter breaks records for top mobile movie ticket sales: Fandango

According to Fandango, ticket sales for the film is the company’s largest share of opening weekend box office for any movie in its 11-year history. Harry Potter took in a projected domestic weekend box office of $168.6 million.

Fandango offers the ability to select a film, plan where and when to see it and buy tickets in advance. The company, a unit of Comcast Interactive Media, has a mobile Web site at http://mobile.fandango.com.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 is the new record holder of a movie with the most tickets ever sold via mobile applications on Fandango.

The previous record-holder was “The Hangover II”.

Additionally, July 15 was the top day for mobile ticket sales in Fandango history

According to the company, more than 30 million consumers visited its Web and mobile destinations in June.

Fandango is pacing to surpass that traffic in July.

For this year’s summer movie season, nearly 20 percent of Fandango ticket sales have come from its mobile apps such as iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, Palm and Windows Phone 7.

Mobile tickets
According to a Fandango survey of more than 1,000 moviegoers, 62 percent of Harry Potter fans plan to see the movie more than once in the theater, indicating repeat viewings throughout the week.

As of July 17the film still accounts 91 percent of all daily tickets sold on Fandango.
