El Corte Ingles aims to increase sales via mobile site launch

The company tapped Usablenet to power the mobile site. Consumers can access the mobile site by entering http://www.elcorteingles.com on their handset browser.

“El Corte Ingles is the world’s fourth largest department store, and with global smartphone adoption growing significantly, the company recognizes the importance of optimizing its mobile presence,” said Nick Taylor, CEO of Usablenet, New York.

“By allowing its online customers to do everything they can do on a desktop from the palm of their hands, El Corte Ingles is ensuring that it will deliver an optimal experience for all users,” he said.

The mobile-optimized site

Through the mobile site consumers can browse products and buy them.

Additionally, the mobile site features an advanced scrolling image carousel that rotates product images displayed on the homepage.

Consumers can also browse by category without loading extra pages.

A mobile site is a smart move for El Corte Ingles.

More consumers are turning to their mobile device to shop and giving consumers that option is essential.

Brands and retailers are increasingly seeing the potential that mobile presents and are realizing that consumers are more tech-savvy then they were before – therefore targeting them on a device that they always have on-hand is critical.

“This year we expect to see more brands implement comprehensive mobile strategies that include both next-generation HTML5 technologies to implement faster and more agile mobile sites, while complementing their mobile browser presence with native apps to drive brand loyalty and in-store interactions,” Mr. Taylor said.
