Brands reward loyalists who check-in to Walmart, Target and Best Buy via Whrrl

Consumers first need to join Whrrl’s Holiday Deals Society, in order to be able to check-in to Walmart, Target and Best Buy. Holiday Deals Socity members also get access to recommendations for sales, gift ideas and tips for what to buy from the Whrrl community and a team of experts from Collective Bias.

“Whrrl is aiming to help make shopping fun, easy and affordable this holiday season,” said Heather Meeker, directo of PR and marketing at Pelago, makers of Whrrl, Seattle. “We understand between the traffic, crowded malls and budgets that shopping can be tough, so we’ve created the Holiday Deals Society where anyone can learn about the best deals nationwide from our shop and save experts from Collective Bias.

“Shoppers can join the society and win prizes from Philips, Hamilton Beach, Elmer’s, Murphy USA and Seagate when they check into Walmart, Target and Best Buy,” she said. “In addition, members can add their own recommendations about the hottest finds and share with others in the society.”

“We believe this incentive alone will make consumers want to visit their locations for a chance to win, not to mention having the best deals at their fingertips while they’re making shopping decisions.”

Society member perks
Society members can also add their recommendations from any store across the nation – everyone in the society will receive a notification in real-time about the deal.

When people check into Walmart and Target specifically, they will also have the chance to join the USA Weekend and Family Meals societies and win $25 Marie Callender’s gift certificates and movie passes for two.

Whrrl works with big brands
In October, Warner Bros. partnered with Murphy USA, a national gas station and convenience store chain co-located at Walmart, to use Whrrl as the main focus of a social media campaign for the movie “Due Date.”

When customers check in on Whrrl at one of Murphy’s 1,200-plus locations, they have the chance to win movie tickets, concession cash and other Due Date-related prizes.

Murphy just surveyed its customers using Whrrl and found that 44 percent of users checking-in were shopping at the convenience chain for the first time. A whopping 85 percent chose Murphy over a nearby competitor.

“Whrrl is alerting our 450,000 members about the promotion because we want the community to actively participate in sharing their best deals this holiday season,” Ms. Meeker said. “In addition, any Holiday Deals Society member who has 5 friends that join the society will double their chances to win the prizes.”
