Walmart shoppers can now get Dunkin’ delivered.
The big-box retailer announced Thursday that the company will offer Dunkin’ food and beverage delivery through its website or app. The service will debut through the retailer’s current 150 Dunkin’ in-store locations and expand to most of its 10,000 locations outside of Walmart stores nationwide.
The retailer wants to position itself as a contender in the restaurant delivery business, per the company’s press release. Walmart’s expansion of restaurant delivery is through a collaboration with Inspire Brands.
“The future of retail is about meeting customers wherever they are and simplifying their lives,” Greg Cathey, senior vice president of e-commerce fulfillment transformation at Walmart, said in a statement. “By expanding restaurant delivery beyond our stores, we are offering a value and convenience proposition that is unmatched.”
Eligible customers will automatically see Dunkin’ as an option in the Walmart app under the “restaurants” tab based on their delivery address.
Walmart in June expanded its express delivery service to Subway orders, marking its first restaurant integration for express delivery. Subway is the company’s largest in-store restaurant tenant.
During the company’s second quarter earnings, Walmart emphasized the importance of its brick-and-mortar locations.
“The role of our stores has evolved as our model has changed,” CFO John David Rainey said on a recent call with analysts. “The more omni we become, the more important our stores become — not less important, more important.”
In Q2, Walmart U.S. revenue saw around 43% growth in store-fulfilled delivery. The company achieved faster delivery speeds on a broader assortment during the quarter, and reported orders under three hours represented around 37% of store-fulfilled orders.
Competitor Target began testing adding Starbucks orders to its Drive Up service in 2022 and quickly expanded the service.
