Dive Insight:
Lightspeed POS is poised to expand its push into e-commerce with the acquisition of SEOshop. The Amsterdam-based startup will be rebranded as LightSpeed eCom, and the company plans to integrate its products with Lightspeed’s point-of-sale platform—a popular option among brick-and-mortar retail stores and restaurants—next year.
The goal, according to Lightspeed CEO Dax Dasilva, is to help online-only retailers explore the possibility of opening physical locations using a single platform, as well as help brick-and-mortar retailers increase their omnichannel capabilities.
“With the industry rapidly digitizing, online-only merchant demand has grown exponentially,” Dasilva tweeted. “Bringing SEOshop into the Lightspeed family gives us additional scale, and allows us to help store owners create a global shopping experience and sell smarter—no matter how their customers choose to shop.”
SEOshop offers a variety of stock and custom online storefronts at low cost, and is the market leader in the Benelux countries. With the acquisition, Lightspeed now serves 34,000 customers. Lightspeed also acquired the Belgian POS company POSIOS last year.
