Dive Insight:
More consumers may be paying with mobile wallets if the new terminal from French tech company Ingenico is successful. Announced this week at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the RP170c contactless payment receiver plugs into the headphone jack of any iOS or Android mobile device, and accepts NFC payments from Apple Pay, MasterCard and Visa payWave.
The “future-proof” RP170c terminal can also accept payment from European-standard EMV chip-and-pin cards, or American-style magnetic stripe cards, and offers audio and visual alerts to signal a completed contactless transaction. The terminal is expected to reach market by June under the Ingenico and third-party brands.
