PNC simplifies banking via mobile deposit feature

The bank believes that the free mobile deposit option reflects its focus on technology and innovation. The app – available on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices – is available for free download in Apple’s App Store.

The PNC Financial Services Group Inc. is one of the nation’s largest diversified financial services organizations providing retail and business banking; residential mortgage banking; specialized services for corporations and government entities, including corporate banking, real estate finance and asset-based lending; wealth management and asset management.

PNC declined to comment.

Virtual wallet
The mobile deposit feature is available to PNC customers via the company’s PNC Virtual Wallet app.

PNC’s mobile deposit is a three-step process that takes about 90 seconds, per the company.

Consumers first select the deposit account, the amount and then photograph the front and back of the check.

Additionally, mobile deposits made before 8 p.m. are typically available the next business day.

Evolution of banking
More financial institutions are gaining traction in the mobile space via apps and mobile-optimized sites that let consumers bank wherever they are.

Banks are seeing the advantage that mobile presents by constantly offering consumers new features and options.

Mobile deposits are becoming huge in the mobile banking space.

Banks such as Chase and Citi are offering consumers an option of taking a photo of their check with their smartphone and depositing it remotely.

Even non-banking organizations such as PayPal is letting users deposit via its iPhone and Android apps.
