Discover bumps up mobile offers for holiday shoppers

Combining more than 150 deals from top brands and retailers, Cashback Bonus card members are among the larger consumer base looking for the best deals to snatch for holiday gifts. By putting these deals in one virtual location, users can find these more easily and are more likely to remember to use them.

“Having a singular site that combines the best of our offers in one place provides more convenience for our card members,” said Brian Meier, director of Discover Rewards at Discover, Chicago. “Our two sites ShopDiscover and Discover Extras offered different types of extra values for card members, but the feedback we received led us to provide all of the deals in one place.

“We’ve made it easier to find deals, which makes it easier for our card members to get more value in one place,” he said.

Synchronizing offers
Discover It and Discover More card members can sign up to earn 5 percent Cashback bonus on up to $1,500 in online shopping and department store purchases made between October 1 and December 31.

Discover Deals members can go to Discover.com/Deals to reap instant savings or additional bonuses after shopping at participating brands’ stores or online. Deals can be accessed through the mobile app as well.

Department deals from retailers such as Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Kohl’s, electronics deals from Dell and other speciality deals, such as 1800Flowers will all be found on the site and app.

While retail and electronics are top targets every holiday season, Discover is roping in more participation with its programs by combining the use of mobile technology and leveraging these top retailers.

Customers can save in a variety of ways, through instant savings at checkout, statement credits or additional Cashback bonus.

To easily locate the Discover app, smartphone users can text “App” to Discov or 347268, which prevents the user from having to search in the App store.

Another update on the Discover app allows users to log in using their Apple Touch ID.

Mobile first
More customers are signing up for a Discover credit card via mobile app than expected, one senior executive at the financial services firm has said.

Discover seeks to provide the same or even a higher level of service through its mobile app as it does through other channels, said Mark Scarborough, senior vice president of card-member service and engagement at Discover Card. The firm recently won several awards for its customer service, including acknowledgement for mobile customer service specifically (see story).

Discover continues in its mobile innovations to drive consumers to its app, especially as mobile wallets and mobile rewards become more prevalent.

“More and more of our card members are incorporating their mobile devices into their shopping patterns, whether doing research, looking for coupons, or making purchases,” Mr. Meier said. “We want to make it as easy as possible for them to find offers from more than 150 brands while delivering a seamless customer experience.

“We want Discover card members to have the ability to shop in a way that suits them best, whether online or through the mobile app,” he said.
