BeautyBar.com lets consumers stock up on cosmetics via mobile app

Consumers can place their orders via the app and receive free shipping, which will be delivered anywhere in the United States in two days or less. The app is available for free download in Apple’s App Store.

BeautyBar.com is an online destination that offers more than 5,000 cosmetic and beauty products from elite brands including Bond No. 9, Stila, By Terry, Philosophy and Dermalogica.

“The mobile app is crafted on the same principles as our site – providing you the beauty of now,” said Elizabeth Whitman, associate director of BeautyBar.com. “Consistent with our 1-2 day shipping and existing easy-to-navigate site, the mobile app allows us to offer customers the earliest opportunity for the latest looks, on their own terms.

“It caters to the chic-conscious woman looking for premier beauty selections ranging from stateside iconic brands like Philosophy to hard-to-find brands like Bond No. 9 and international brands like Diego dalla Palma,” she said. “We allow for convenient replenishment but also discovery of new brands with interactive tools such as the color compare feature and our sampling program.

“Mobile app 2.0 will push the envelope even further with interactive tools for our customers.”

The app features offline functionality and lets consumers complete errands while on a subway, airplane or anywhere else there is spotty service.

Consumers who have previously ordered from BeautyBar.com can reorder the previous items – without Wi-Fi or 3G.

According to the company, consumers can complete 95 percent of their purchase offline and are automatically prompted to complete their purchase when their device regains service.

The app also lets customers use the UPC code scanning functionality to scan products that are running low at home.

Consumers can scan the items and automatically add them to their shopping carts.

“First and foremost, mobile is the up-and-coming method of shopping anytime, anywhere,” Ms. Whitman said. “Second, our customers are busy professional women and mothers who have little time—we knew they would value the convenience and flexibility the mobile app affords them in replenishing their beauty staples while discovering new beauty favorites.

“In store, there’s waiting on lines; with the mobile app, you are first in line every time,” she said. “In stores, you have high-pressure salespersons, but with our app, you have high-speed browsing at your own leisure—wherever, whenever.

Buy me later
Additionally, shoppers who are not ready to buy can add items to their shopping care and access them later from any device.

The company is also running a promotion that give consumers, who shop before midnight on Aug. 23, $10 off their next purchase.

BeautyBar.com is also looking to roll out an Android app in the future.

“We have marketed the app through our weekly email, our social media channels and through press,” Ms. Whitman said. “In order to spur trial, we are offering a $10 account credit to use on future Beauty Bar orders to anyone who places a mobile order in the next week before midnight on Aug. 23.”
