Seel, an AI operations platform for commerce, today launches a new resale capability within its Order Center that lets shoppers recover value from their gently used items once they are no longer eligible for a return or refund. By making resale available in the same portal where shoppers already manage their orders, Seel is solving one of the last unsolved pain points in the post-purchase experience, giving both shoppers and merchants a better outcome when a return simply isn't possible anymore.
The announcement comes amid a period of significant momentum for Seel, whose AI-powered features serve over 50 million consumers across $6B of GMV annually, representing nearly a 10x year-over-year growth in volume.
Using AI to unlock net new experiences for shoppers
Secondhand shopping offers affordable prices to buyers, liquidity to sellers, and reduces waste for the environment. However, it represents less than 3% of the U.S. e-commerce transaction because the friction of creating listings across multiple platforms, monitoring prices, negotiating with buyers is high. Features such as instant refunds for eligible requests, automatic resale across marketplaces, and real-time shopping assistance on merchant storefronts help merchants deliver enjoyable new shopper experiences and services that are not possible without AI.
Consumers Get Paid to Get Rid of Unwanted Items, Retailers Build Trust
Seel now gives consumers a new way to resell their gently used items once they are past the return or refund window. Within Seel’s Order Center, consumers can now 1-click resell items purchased from Seel’s thousands of brand partners. Shoppers simply select the item they’d like to resell and a minimum price they’d accept, then the AI agents get to work:
- Create the listing: creates the product listing across multiple secondhand marketplaces using the product information available;
- Run an auction: updates prices based on real-time market data to find market clearing price, and even message potential buyers when allowed;
- Automate fulfillment: sends shipping label & instruction to the shopper, who simply ships the item to the new buyer;
- Manage inventory: when an item sells on one platform, the AI agent removes the listing across all other platforms to avoid confusion.
“Consumers shouldn’t have to lose out just because a return window closes. Resale gives shoppers more flexibility and a simple way to recover value from items they no longer need,” said Zack Peng, founder and CEO of Seel. “Resale also extends the post-purchase experience for merchants in a way that builds trust, reduces friction, and strengthens the overall customer relationship, creating lasting value beyond the initial sale in a shopping environment increasingly driven by ecommerce.”
The new resale capability is already live with a handful of retailers, including Debenhams Group, the global brand powerhouse with over £1.5B in annual revenue across an extensive portfolio of premium brands across beauty, fashion, and homeware categories. “Resale gives our customers a better outcome when a return isn’t possible, adding flexibility to the post-purchase journey while creating a way to stay connected to shoppers even after the initial sale,” said Dan Finley, Group CEO of Debenhams Group. “It helps turn a potentially frustrating moment into a more positive post-purchase experience, while giving us another way to support customer satisfaction and long-term loyalty.”
