The City of Albuquerque's Department of Aviation announces an exciting opportunity for professional retail consultants and management firms to contribute to the transformation of the Albuquerque International Sunport's retail environment. A Request for Proposals (RFP-2024-539-AVI-IC) has been released, seeking qualified applicants to manage the Retail Merchandising Unit (RMU) program under the Ascend ABQ initiative.
"Ascend ABQ is not just about enhancing the retail landscape of the Sunport; it's about creating meaningful opportunities for evolving and established small businesses to thrive in a vibrant airport setting," said Gary Gilliard, Deputy Director of the ABQ Department of Aviation. "We're looking for a partner who shares our vision of fostering an inclusive and dynamic concessions ecosystem."
Key Opportunities and Objectives:
- Innovative Program Management: The selected RMU Program Manager/Consultant will spearhead the Ascend ABQ program, focusing on business development, enforcing RMU program standards, and recruiting RMU operators.
- Local and Cultural Representation: Emphasizing local and regional products, the program aims to showcase New Mexico's rich culture and heritage to travelers, aligning with the "Dream of Flight" concessions redesign set to debut in fall 2024.
- Empowering Entrepreneurs: "Through Ascend ABQ, we're not just offering retail spaces; we're providing a platform for entrepreneurs to grow, supported by comprehensive business development resources," Gilliard emphasized.
RFP Details:
- Submission Deadline: Proposals must be submitted by April 16, 2024, 4:00 p.m. (MT).
- Pre-Proposal Conference: A non-mandatory conference will be held on March 27, 2024, at 8:30 AM (Local Time) remotely via Zoom, providing an opportunity for potential applicants to learn more about the RFP requirements and the Ascend ABQ vision.
The Albuquerque International Sunport is a key gateway to New Mexico, offering a unique opportunity for RMU operators to engage with a diverse and dynamic audience. With an anticipated return to pre-pandemic passenger levels by 2026 and a commitment to supporting small, minority-owned, and local businesses, the Ascend ABQ program represents a significant step forward in the airport's local and cultural offerings.
"We're excited to partner with an experienced and visionary RMU Program Manager/Consultant who can help us realize the full potential of the Ascend ABQ program. Together, we will create an unparalleled airport experience that celebrates the spirit and diversity of our community," concluded Gilliard.
