Hermes, DPD and GLS Partner for Joint Venture Company, ParcelLock GmbH
ParcelLock GmbH’s Universally Available Locking System to Set a New Delivery Standard
Chicago, January 5, 2016 – Hermes, operator of the largest business-to-consumer (B2C) parcel shop network in Europe, announces its partnership with Dynamic Parcel Distribution (DPD) and General Logistics Systems (GLS). Together, the firms have established a new joint venture company, ParcelLock GmbH, which will launch carrier-neutral parcel boxes for the home delivery market in summer 2016.
The ParcelLock system is one additional alternative to the common doorstep delivery. It offers another service benefit to customers who will now gain a greater choice when it comes to improved integrated parcel sending in their everyday life. Since this solution allows for the recipient to always be reached, there is much more sustainability.
“Parcel boxes that are not limited to one service provider can simplify the receiving of parcels for a lot of people,” explains Dirk Reiche, ParcelLock CEO. “The ParcelLock system is the counter model to closed solutions, diversely usable and easy to integrate into existing shipping processes. Parcel and delivery services are able to gain access to a cross-manufacturer standard with maximum security. I am convinced that products with the ParcelLock system will serve as an important infrastructure for e- and m-commerce by making the delivery of goods more efficient and more comfortable.”
The versatility of the ParcelLock system is accompanied by a maximum degree of security, which has been tested extensively and proved to be resilient. Service providers can only use the parcel box based on individual and temporary numerical codes, which are similar to those used in online banking (TANs).
BURG-WÄCHTER, one of the leading international producers of post boxes, safes and security systems, will be the first manufacturer to offer parcel boxes and parcel bags with the ParcelLock system in summer 2016. Its model is based on the solution provided by parcel bag start-up Locumi. In September 2015, ParcelLock acquired the parcel bag division of Locumi Labs in order to develop the follow-up model based on the ParcelLock system.
In the medium term, consumers will be able to choose from a variety of models by different parcel bag and parcel box manufacturers. It will guarantee a standardized use thanks to the ParcelLock system. To see how the ParcelLock system operates, please visit: http://youtu.be/MUrCPBTx28M.
