Target is adding former 7-Eleven President and CEO Joe DePinto to its board of directors effective Aug. 1. He’ll serve on the board’s infrastructure and finance committee as well as audit and risk committee, Target announced Wednesday.
DePinto led 7-Eleven starting in 2005 and retired from the CEO position at the end of last year. He brings public company governance experience from boards such as Joann Stores, OfficeMax and more.
“At Target, we're leading with merchandising authority, elevating the guest experience, accelerating technology and strengthening our team and communities to pave a new path of growth,” Target CEO Michael Fiddelke said in a statement. “Joe has spent his career relentlessly focused on the customer, empowering teams and delivering operational excellence. His perspective and experience in retail, with a particular emphasis in food and digital commerce, will be a tremendous asset to our Board as we continue building momentum against our strategy.”
Fiddelke formally took on the top spot from longtime Target CEO Brian Cornell earlier this year in order to foster a turnaround effort. Fiddelke has brought change to the retailer’s executive suite and board — though Cornell remains involved as executive chair of the board.
Nike’s former chief innovation officer, John Hoke, joined Target’s board in March and serves on the governance and sustainability committee, as well as the compensation and human capital management committee. Target also brought on the former CEO of HanesBrands, Steve Bratspies, to the board in April to serve on the audit and risk as well as the infrastructure and finance committees.
