Dive Insight:
Sephora joins a lengthy list of retailers that are engaging with DoorDash’s delivery services. The tech company said it has more than 25 million active users and more than 75,000 retailers on its platform in North America.
Before its partnership with DoorDash, Sephora has previously experimented with deliveries. In 2020, the retailer introduced same-day deliveries with Instacart and allowed Sephora Beauty Insider members to earn incentives through their Instacart purchases. In September, the retailer unveiled an unlimited same-day delivery membership program for $49 annually or one-off same-day deliveries starting at $6.95.
“At Sephora, our clients are at the heart of our business, and we hear loud and clear that on-demand delivery is what they’re looking for,” Nadine Graham, senior vice president and general manager of e-commerce at Sephora, said in a statement. “Our partnership with DoorDash was a natural next step in the continued evolution of ease and convenience while delivering best-in-class experiences. Being a part of the DoorDash platform allows for more convenience and flexibility, and creates incredible value through our loyalty program, so both new and existing clients can continue to earn points on their orders, no matter how they shop with us.”
In addition to on-demand delivery via DoorDash’s marketplace, Sephora customers can still shop its website for “same-day delivery powered by DoorDash Drive,” according to the release.
Earlier this year, DoorDash added another beauty retailer to its platform: Sally Beauty. The company charged $5.95 for two-hour orders under $35 and offered free deliveries for orders $35 and up. During its Q2 earnings call, Sally Beauty CEO Denise Paulonis said 80% of Sally Beauty’s shoppers interact with the company through mobile devices.
