Jonathan Saunders — who has worked with labels including Diane von Furstenburg, Calvin Klein, Tiffany & Co., Pucci and Alexander McQueen — is back from his stint in fast fashion.
On Aug. 26, the designer will join Kate Spade New York as executive creative director. For the past year or so, he has been chief creative officer at H&M-owned & Other Stories, per his LinkedIn page.
He is tasked with leading “the brand’s direction across product design and visual identity,” and will report to brand president and CEO Eva Erdmann.
In a press release Tuesday, owner Tapestry emphasized the goal of “ushering in the brand’s next era.” Erdmann said she and Saunders will “work together to introduce an uplifting vision of luxury to a new generation of consumers." And Saunders in a statement said he is “looking forward to immersing in the brand heritage and connecting that soul with today’s consumers.”
To that end, last week Kate Spade also brought on former L’Oréal executive Allison Badea as chief marketing officer. Erdmann arrived from L’Oréal in late 2024.
The brand has been struggling. In its most recent quarter, sales fell 10%, or roughly $25 million, to about $220 million.
