Intuit lets consumers authorize transactions via mobile app
The GoPayment application, which is being developed for the Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet lets businesses take photos of frequently sold items. Companies can use the device’s camera and create a visual product list to take customer orders.
“We want to give people the choice to process credit cards on the mobile platforms and devices they prefer,” said Joseph Mao, product manager for GoPayment at Intuit, Mountain View, CA. “So we’ve developed GoPayment to work with all major mobile platforms and it supports more than 40 mobile devices, now including Android 3.0-based tablets.”
Intuit claims to process more than $17 billion in transactions annually for approximately 300,000 small businesses.
Using the application, a business can drag and drop items into the shopping cart and add or delete items as needed.
Additionally, merchants can view transactions and find items in a product list or locate past transactions using the search capabilities.
“We decided to create the GoPayment app after hearing our small business customers tell us that there wasn’t an easy and affordable way to process credit cards when out of the office or at a customer’s site,” Mr. Mao said.
“They had to buy a wireless terminal which cost around $1,000 or use unsecure, manual methods such as calling in the credit card number to their bookkeeper over the phone or using a knuckle-buster machine to copy the credit card number on paper,” he said.

Touch screen function
The application also features a touch screen signature functionality.
The GoPayment application is set to be released in spring on Android Market.
“We wanted to support all of the key mobile platforms that our customers use and Android is definitely one that’s growing exponentially,” Mr. Mao said.
