HarperCollins, Martha Stewart tap iAmplify for mobile content distribution

Publishers such as HarperCollins, Martha Stewart and American Media Inc. are selling audio and visual content online and letting consumers download it to their mobile device.

Photon and iAmplify have partnered to build a self-publishing platform for people and brands that want to make their premium audio and video content available on PCs and mobile devices. The platform is designed to push content to any device—to smartphones and other mobile devices, as well as to a desktop computer.

“Premium audio and video content should be taken on a portable, mobile basis, and we help content providers to publish all kinds of premium content and people to consume it on a mobile basis,” said Murray Hidary, CEO of iAmplify, New York. “Content providers have full control of the business model.

“We call it the Media Factory, which is a Web-based library that Photon built and continues to build for us,” he said. “They’re our technology partner, and we continue to add features.

“It’s completely our own ecommerce and digital-delivery platform, and Photon has helped us with all of that based on an outsourced model for our technology development.” is a Web-based publisher and syndication network providing the tools and distribution for authors, celebrities and media companies to publish paid audio and video content over the Internet.

The company owns and sells exclusive content on its Web site and via syndication to portals and vertical Web sites.

IAmplify has exclusive rights to a catalog of content in more than 30 verticals such as fitness, yoga, nutrition, relationships, spirituality and sports.

The company works with such partners as Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Marilu Henner, Kathy Smith and Phil Hellmuth, as well as the Sports Legends library and media companies such as HarperCollins Publishers to publish paid audio and video content over the Internet.

Other clients include Martha Stewart Omnimedia, American Media Inc.’s Shape and Men’s Fitness magazine.

Content is available for download to computer, iPods and mobile phones and is always available online at

Users can set up subscriptions, à la carte pricing, package deals or whatever monetization model they choose.

IAmplify uses its Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as personal email lists, to promote the audio/video wares.

Photon built the platform from the ground up to be scalable and support mobile as one of the key platforms out the gate.

Authors and publishers upload their content through this platform and are able to sell it on their own Web site via an ecommerce widget.

Consumers can download the content and automatically sync it to their iPod or any mobile device that can handle mp3 and mp4 formats, including the iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones.

For iPhone users, iAmplify syncs directly into iTunes as an encrypted RSS feed.

“The philosophy is that the content should be pushed to wherever relevant eyeballs are,” Mr. Hidary said. “We look at people that have uploaded fitness content and say ‘Why don’t we go to a fitness magazine and do a deal with them?’

Fitness Magazine has a branded store, and we filled the store with content that can be downloaded to mobile devices,” he said. “We fill the shelves with all that content via publishers that have uploaded and published it via iAmplify, so there’s a whole syndication play here.

“The iAmplify brand is secondary to the content providers’ brand—we work with those brands to leverage email, Twitter and social media to drive traffic to widgets and online stores to download that content.”
