Amazon rolls out daily deals via mobile

Amazon is expanding its mobile repertoire with a new iPhone application that lets customers stay on top of daily deals.

The Amazon Deals application features deals from the company’s Gold Box. Consumers can browse limited-availability products and get deal notifications. offers millions of new, refurbished and used items in categories such as books, movies, music and games, digital downloads, electronics, home and apparel.

“Our customers have asked for shopping experiences in mobile and we plan to continue to provide features designed for the platforms and devices our customers are using,” said Stacey Keller, spokeswoman for Amazon, Seattle.

“Subsequent editions may support other platforms and devices but we have nothing further to announce at this time,” she said.

The application features up-to-date Deal of the Day and Lightning Deal offers and the availability status of the products.

Additionally, consumers can view the day’s calendar of deal offers and set up alarms that remind you of individual deals.

Customers can opt-in to receive alerts about future deals in specific categories and share their bargains with friends and family via email, SMS, Facebook or Twitter.

The company’s Gold Box deals span the entire Amazon catalog and each morning, the day’s schedule of deals is published.

Product categories include books, textbooks, DVDs, video games, electronics, home and garden, baby, toys, beauty, mobile phones, clothing, jewelry, magazines, office products and shoes.

Recently, Amazon launched a price-comparison application.

The Price Check application lets consumers search across different categories including toys and consumer electronics.

Additionally, customers can scan a bar code, snap a picture or say or type a product name to receive instant prices for that particular item (see story).

“More and more people are carrying smart phones and other wireless mobile devices,” Ms. Keller said. “Amazon Mobile offers customers a fast and convenient way to shop on and our thousands of merchants wherever they go.

“Customers can go from ‘I want that’ to ‘I bought that’ in under 30 seconds,” she said.
