Dive Brief:
-
UPDATE: eBay announced Thursday that it will sell off its eBay Enterprise unit for $925 million to a group of investment firms.
-
eBay’s e-commerce solutions unit was orphaned by the imminent eBay-PayPal split.
-
The split between eBay and PayPal, which is expected in a matter of days, recently received the go-ahead from the European Central Bank, the final hurdle the businesses had to clear.
Dive Insight:
The eBay-PayPal split is that much closer to happening thanks to the blessing by Europe’s Central Bank. Lost in the shuffle has been eBay Enterprise, the e-commerce solutions unit previously known as GSI Commerce that eBay bought for $2.4 billion in 2011.
The unit may be less attractive considering that one of its biggest clients, Toys 'R' Us, recently announced that it's moving its e-commerce operations from there in house, but it still has the Magento software platform that holds promise.
