Dive Brief:
-
Google Shopping Express Tuesday announced same-day delivery services in West Los Angeles and Manhattan, whereby shoppers can make purchases from certain retailers and have them delivered quickly.
-
Amazon itself has expanded its same-day delivery service to 12 cities, for purchases made on its own site.
-
EBay’s eBay Now, car service Uber’s UberRUSH, and startups like Palo Alto, CA-based Deliv are also getting into the same-day delivery game.
Dive Insight:
Same-day delivery comes at a premium, but it appears to be an attractive growth area for this many companies to compete for customers busy (or lazy?) enough to use it. This could turn out to be a flash in the pan, but in the meantime retailers look like they have a variety of ways — in certain cities — to offer their customers almost immediate gratification.
