This week's Retail Therapy is all about surprises—and retailers showing up in the darndest places.
From one of retail's most interesting CEOs popping up in the latest Star Trek blockbuster to high fashion advertising campaigns getting their Pokemon moment, you just never know where your favorite retailer will show up.
This, and more, in this week's Retail Therapy below.
Guess who’s back
Looks like the ‘90s are here to stay: Pokemon are cool again, Juicy tracksuits are being sold in Bloomingdales, and chokers are a fashion statement. And the cherry on top: Ugg just relaunched its Classic boot, Classic 2.0, which features a more water-resistant design and better tread on the soles.
Pokemon’s runway moment
As Pokemon Go has taken the world by storm, retailers are trying to figure out how to best leverage the augmented reality game to lure customers.
Months before the app’s release, Canadian stylist Francis Phommisai created a prescient Tumblr dubbed Pokexfashion, which cast Pokemon in fashion campaigns and editorials. While the blog went out of commission several months ago, Phommisai recreated the magic exclusively for Fashionista, giving different Pokemon the opportunity to try out their best “Blue Steel.”
The Bezos appearance
In case owning an aerospace company wasn’t enough of a hint, here’s some news—Jeff Bezos is a space geek. We found more evidence this week in his recent cameo in “Star Trek Beyond." Confirmed by Producer J.J. Abrams and Director Justin Lin, Bezos appears in the movie (which comes out today) and is listed in the credits as a Starfleet Official.

And if you're wondering what a billionaire rolling into a movie set looks like, Star Trek actor Chris Pine described it for the Hollywood Reporter: "I was there for the bit with his, like, nine bodyguards and three limos. It was really intense. I had no idea who he was. Not a clue. But he was obviously very important."
Unconventional fashion
While Melania Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention may have stolen the show for its unmistakable similarities to a speech by Michelle Obama, it still didn’t stop the press from writing about the Roksanda Ilincic dress she chose for the occasion. While some have pointed out that it veers from tradition—given that it’s from a Serbian-born, not American, designer—that’s still not stopping fans. The $2,190 dress is now sold out at Net-a-porter, where Trump picked out the dress herself, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
