What do stamps, tobacco, and slot machines have in common? They are on eBay's list of prohibited and restricted items.
Oh, you knew that already? Well, you can show off your knowledge of the (pretty long) list of things that can't be sold on eBay in a quiz found below. In case you think it's impossible, here's a hint: just this week eBay added human “skulls and skeletons” to its list of prohibited items.
This, and more, in this week's Retail Therapy.
Gotta (eventually) catch ‘em all
Both Amazon and Pokemon Go dominated headlines this week: Amazon for its blockbuster Prime Day and Pokemon Go for being one of the hottest app releases to date. But there was only one story that combined both. According to the Wall Street Journal, a posting on Amazon’s Japanese site accidentally gave away clues to Pokemon Go's release date in the country. The pre-order posting for a device to play Pokemon Go was removed from the site after the Journal contacted Amazon about it.
Don’t mess with the skaters
A couple weeks ago, Vogue decided to mix things up a bit with its audience, debuting “Skate Week” on its website and promoting articles like “Celebrities with boards” and “Here’s how to do skater style like a model.” They even have a Pinterest board for “skate style inspo!”
Unsurprisingly, many skaters weren’t fans. Fashionista spoke to some actual skating fanatics about the new “skate style” trend. While some passed it off as just a fad, others were a little more vocal with their disgust: "I think Vogue is f---ing dumb and knows nothing about skating, and their approach was ignorant and stupid," one anonymous skate filmmaker, who had been asked to consult on Vogue's Skate Week, said.
The new "it" bag
In the age of online retail, everything is changing. That includes the new post-purchase carry-all “status symbol." Racked reports that shipping boxes are the new shopping bag, spurred by the rise of un-boxing photos and videos. Case in point: In a 2015 study, Dotcom Distribution found 61% of online shoppers believe pretty packaging makes brands look "upscale," while about 40% are more likely to recommend product base on branded packaging alone.
On the list
Lastly, a little quiz we like to call, “What can’t you sell on eBay?” You can test your knowledge below.
