Dive Insight:
J.C. Penney Co. has named one of its board members, Mary Beth West, to the role of executive vice president and CMO. West has served on the board since 2005, and has more than 30 years of experience in brand management and marketing communications with packaged-foods giants General Foods, Kraft, and Mondelez International. She will report directly to CEO Myron E. (Mike) Ullman III starting June 1.
J.C. Penney also promoted 28-year company veteran Kirk Waidelich from vice president of marketing strategy to senior vice president of sales promotion and marketing, reporting to West. The moves are intended to help the struggling department store chain build its brand with families and better exploit its customer data, officials indicated.
