Dive Brief:
- Gap, Inc. has named Wendi Goldman to the position of executive vice president of product design and development.
- Goldman was behind marketing and merchandising for Victoria’s Secret’s “Pink” subbrand.
- With the recent termination of creative director Rebekka Bay, Goldman’s new job is Gap’s highest design position.
Dive Insight:
Industry veteran Wendi Goldman is returning to Gap, Inc. as executive vice president of product design and development. Goldman has spent more than 25 years in retail, most recently as chief product officer at C. Wonder, fashion mogul Chris Burch’s short-lived chain of preppy boutiques. Goldman also launched the Victoria’s Secret’s Pink brand, and worked in product design for Gap’s Banana Republic brand early in her career.
Following the ouster of creative director Rebekka Bay, the new hire is seen as a safe bet to shore up sales for Gap’s remaining brands, rather than a complete overhaul. CEO Art Peck has indicated he wants the brand to return to its roots as a seller of casual, American basics.
