Dive Brief:
-
Brink’s Co. — best known in movies, rap songs, and real life for its secure, white armored trucks delivering untouchable loads of cash — has announced an e-commerce retail payment processing service.
-
Not surprisingly, Brink’s Checkout complies with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards for data protection.
-
Brink’s will charge merchants 2.9% of each transaction plus 30 cents to process credit and debit card payments and PayPal payments, akin to PayPal’s rates.
Dive Insight:
It’s pretty clear after this past holiday’s now infamous credit card breaches that, thanks to cheap and easily available malware, it’s easier to hold up a credit card processor than an actual Brink’s truck. If Brink’s can bring to its new e-commerce payment services the same sense of impenetrable security its trucks carry, it may go to the head of the crowded e-payments field.
