As one of the editors of Retail Dive, it’s my job to keep tabs on every piece of retail-related news—the good, the bad, and the silly. From yoga leggings for ninjas to Rent the Runway’s allegedly toxic culture, here are some of the most interesting stories from around the Web.
Black out
Perfect for that ninja on the holiday gift list (or for satisfying your own inner-ninja), Lululemon is launching an all-black, highly-reflective, limited-edition holiday collection for Black Friday. Pieces include running tights for $298 and ear warmers for $38.
Perfect in the middle
The Telegraph investigates a retail-trend-that’s-not-yet-a-trend: mid-priced jewelry that falls in the sweet spot between kitschy $5 costume jewelry and wildly expensive, diamond encrusted pieces. Retailers highlighted in the piece include Pandora, Monica Vinader, and Swarovski.
High-price cushion for your cushion
Meanwhile, Bloomberg sticks to the high-end of the spending spectrum with a piece looking at the luxury design market, where a stool can go for $30,000 and a couch for $72,000.
'So fierce!'
Mattel included a little boy in a recent ad for the Moschino Barbie—a first for the brand—who subsequently stole the screen with his “Moschino Barbie is so fierce!”, faux-hawk hairdo, and overall awesomeness.
‘The culture is unpredictable and erratic’
In a feature published this week, Fortune examined the “exodus” from Rent the Runway, which has seen its chief operating officer, chief financial officer, chief marketing officer, chief creative officer, chief technology officer, chief people officer, and head of partnerships all leave in the last 10 months. In the expose of Rent the Runway’s culture—which many described as having a "Mean Girls"-like atmosphere—Fortune reveals that there is a private Facebook support group for people who have left the company called “Rent the Runaways,” where members parse through their self-described “PTSD” from working at the company.
