Stop & Shop increases in-store traffic via iPhone, Android app

The application provides consumers with access to their online accounts, including checking for gas points, A+ school rewards and personalized savings. The application is available for free download in Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Market.

“The strategy here is to offer our customers another way we can simplify their shopping experience,” said Arlene Putterman, manager of public and community relations at Stop & Shop, Fairfield, CT.

“We chose a mobile app because mobile is today’s technology and everyone is using it to make their lives easier and faster right at their fingertips,” she said.

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. employs nearly 62,000 associates and operates more than 390 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey.

“We are looking to extend to other platforms but can’t disclose what they are at this time,” Ms. Putterman said. “In addition to press releases, emails have been sent to our customer database and lots of in-store signage informs customers of this new shopping vehicle.”

Convenient shopping
The application lets consumers add exclusive offers directly to their Stop & Shop card.

The company also intends to conduct consumer testing to ensure that the digital application offers what customers are looking for in the latest offering of grocery shopping technology.

“We are always looking to keep up with the latest technology and how we can apply it to our customer’s shopping experience,” Ms. Putterman said. “We look forward to hearing comments from our customers and hope we are satisfying their shopping needs.”
