Ticketmaster parent Live Nation drives ticket sales via mobile commerce platform
Live Nation Entertainment Inc. has launched a commerce-enabled application for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch to provide another platform for fans to buy tickets to concerts and other events.
With the Live Nation application, consumers can get access to Live Nation North American concert listings, receive alerts on application-exclusive pre-sales and last minute tickets for favorite shows, buy authentic tickets directly through the application and browse set lists. The application also delivers concert photos and concert updates, and at select Live Nation shows it even lets fans know what song is playing.
“We launched the app as a way to enable fans to access our concert information and make it easy to purchase tickets and for them to be able to follow their favorite artists in a mobile world,” said Michael Abrams, president of Live Nation Studios, Los Angeles.
“The target demographic is all consumers, concert-goers and music enthusiasts,” he said. “Transactions are processed by our ticketing system.
“We are the world’s third-largest ecommerce company.”
Live Nation Entertainment claims to be the largest live entertainment company in the world, connecting 200 million fans to 100,000 events in 40-plus countries worldwide, which has made Ticketmaster.com the No. 3 ecommerce Web site in the world.
Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in January to form Live Nation Entertainment.
Mobile ticketing boom
Mr. Abrams said that Live Nation’s first application for iPhone and iPod touch enables fans to access concert information and tickets at their fingertips.
This is another digital tool that enhances the live experience and makes it easier for fans to stay connected to their favorite artists in a mobile environment, per Mr. Abrams.
With concert listings on iTunes powered by Live Nation, fans can connect to the Live Nation application directly from iTunes on their iPhone or iPod touch.
With the Live Nation 1.0 app, fans can browse, search and discover concerts for favorite artists nearby and keep track of favorite concerts, artists and venues.
Users can also get alerts on exclusive application pre-sales, on-sales and last-minute tickets, as well as buy authentic tickets.
Music fans can use the application to check out nearly 200,000 set lists on the go and check in with friends at concerts.
Application users can view ticket information, seating charts, pictures and videos all in one place.
At select Live Nation shows, users can receive photos and videos, know when the artist is going on stage and what song the artist is playing.
Initially, photos and now-playing features will be available at the following Live Nation venues: Irving Plaza New York, Gramercy New York, HOB Sunset (Hollywood), Wiltern Los Angeles, Palladium Los Angeles, HOB Boston, HOB Chicago, Fillmore San Francisco, Fillmore Miami (Gleason) and HOB Dallas.
The Live Nation App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch in the U.S. and Canada.
“We’re promoting the app via our own LiveNation.com properties, direct marketing to our database, social media channels and PR,” Mr. Abrams said.
