Groupon expands daily deals service to international markets
Groupon has rolled out its iPhone application in Europe and Asia to bring mobile daily deals to the international market.
Consumers in neighborhoods such as Dundee, Scotland and Britain can access local deals via their mobile device. The application is available in Apple’s International App Store for free download.
“We’re giving our customers the opportunity to have Groupon with them all the time,” said Jonathan Mann, Britain-based online marketing manager at Groupon. “We are a social brand, and what better way to be sociable than to appear in your pocket and in your hand.
“The strategy is as usual – making it easier for our users to get the best out of their city at an unbeatable price,” he said.
Groupon features a daily deal on the best stuff to do, eat, see and buy in more than 500 markets around the world.
Consumers can browse daily deals in select cities via their mobile device.
Additionally, if users see a deal they like, they can buy it instantly using their smartphone.
The application also lets consumers access their Groupon account to find and organize previous purchases.
“We launched in the international market because it is a hugely important market with over eight million subscribers – all of whom deserve Groupon on the move,” Mr. Mann said.
Consumers can also sign up for a new Groupon account via the app, so the application also serves as an acquisition tool.
After customers purchase a deal, they do not need to print a receipt. They can just show their smartphone screen to the merchant to redeem the deal.
“We’re getting the word out about this by actively informing our social media communities, and – of course – emailing our members to tell them about the new way of Grouponing,” Mr. Mann said.
“There are 1,001 new mobile advertising campaigns queued and ready to go,” he said. “Watch out for a large range of devices coming next, including Android.”
