EBay lets mobile consumers shop via interactive windows at 24/7 storefront

The eBay Inspiration Shop, a 24/7 shoppable storefront powered by eBay mobile, lets consumers shop must-have merchandise for the fall season. The “always-open” store windows enable shoppers to browse and buy using eBay’s mobile technology.

“Consumers today expect to shop how they want, when they want – and mobile technology is blurring the lines between online and offline retail to meet this demand,” said Richelle Parham, chief marketing officer, eBay North America.

“The Inspiration Shop brings to life how eBay enables people to immediately act on their passion for shopping in this new commerce environment,” she said. “Collaborating with a creative visionary like Jonathan Adler enabled eBay to present the innovative experience in a chic, compelling and differentiated way.

“Adler’s iconic prints and patterns – reimagined in eBay’s signature colors – serve as the merchandising milieu for the featured items.”

EBay lets users buy and sell on its platforms around the world.

Jonathan Adler is known for a design aesthetic which pairs modernist forms with bold colors and groovy graphics.

How it works
Consumers can download the eBay app to scan the QR codes featured on the interactive store windows.

Users can also shop similar items from more than 200 million listings on eBay.

Trendsetters including actors, designers, bloggers, stylists, editors, photographers, models and musicians were tapped to help curate the items featured in the windows by sharing their shopping wish lists for fall.

Contributors to the eBay Inspiration Shop include Betsey Johnson, Catherine Malandrino, Coco Rocha, Lake Bell, Molly Sims, Rebecca Minkoff, Simon Doonan and Trina Turk.

The items range from categories such as fashion, motors and electronics.

Consumers can shop product such as denim, digital cameras, engines, ereaders, and watches.

“This holiday season is what eBay predicts will be the largest mobile and tablet shopping season yet,” Ms. Parham said. “More and more people feel comfortable buying on their mobile devices with three purchases made on eBay ever second.

“As the lines between offline and online blur, eBay mobile gives consumers the best of both worlds by providing them access to both and online and offline merchandise any time of day and directly on their mobile phones,” she said. “eBay is at the forefront of mobile commerce offering a great selection of brand-new products that shoppers can buy now.

“With your phone or tablet device, the store is wherever you are, and it’s always open”

Via the partnership, Mr. Adler’s recognizable prints and patterns – reimagined in eBay’s signature colors – serve as the merchandising setting for the featured inventory.

The eBay Inspiration Shop is located at 404 Park Avenue South in New York City, and will be open for window shopping through Nov. 10.

“The eBay Inspiration Shop supports eBay’s new advertising campaign — When it’s on your mind, it’s on eBay — launched in September 2011,” Ms. Parham said.

“The campaign speaks to today’s ‘on-demand shopper,’ who prefers to shop anywhere, anytime with a mobile device,” she said. “The campaign aims to prime the market for what will be eBay’s largest mobile shopping season ever.”
